Next Year's Season 2006-2007

Deadwood Dick, or The Game of Gold

By Tom Taggart
September 27-30 October 1-5
Here’s a dramatization of a bloodthirsty dime novel just like the ones your great grandfather used to read in secret.  Step back into the Old West of big-hearted heroes,
Pure hearted maidens, and black-hearted gamblers in this riotous spoof of an old time melodrama in 1876. Edward L. Wheeler started turning out novels about a Robin Hood of the Black Hills whom he named Deadwood Dick.  Overnight Dick became so popular that the series continued for fifteen years.  Taking the most exciting situations, the more colorful characters and the most amusing dialogue from these novels, Tom Taggart has fashioned a blood and thunder melodrama.  Lost daughters, stolen gold mines, kidnapped heroines and hairbreadth escapes abound!

A Midsummer Night’s Dream
By William Shakespeare
November 8-11, 13-16
One of Shakespeare’s earliest and most beloved comedies, this magical and mischievous romp ruminates on the transformation power of love, while also noting its excesses and foolishness. Love triangles, mistaken identities, and magical flowers abound as lovers fall prey to lunacy and trickery.

dAUnce VI

January 24-27, 2008
dAUnce VI marks another annual celebration of dance with a week long festival of performers and master classes conducted by internationally acclaimed artists working side by side with Auburn University students in a thrilling event that has become regular
feature of our theatre season.

A Shayna Madel

By Barbara Le Bow
February 19-23, 2008
“A Shayna Maidel” is a powerful and deeply affecting portrait of a family caught in the aftermath of the Holocaust.
Playwright Barbara Lebrow has created a stirring examination of assimilation and conviction to beliefs.  This haunting tale, set in 1946 Manhattan, explores the intricacies of the old and new ways, the indomitable spirit of hope and renewal, and the sustaining power of family in an ever-changing world.

Little Shop of Horrors
By Alan Menken and Howard Ashman
April 9-13, 2008
Audrey II, the infamous bloodthirsty plant, pays a visit to Auburn University theatre in the spring production of Little Shop of Horrors.  The popular rock musical is based on the 1960 Roger Corman cult movie of the same name.  The musical boasts music by Alan Menken, and lyrics and book by Howard Ashman, the duo who created other memorable characters including Ariel in The Little Mermaid and Belle in Beauty and the Beast.  The story revolves around meek, nebbish florist Seymour Krebourn who makes a Faustian pact with a tiny plant from another planet in order to win Audrey, the girl he loves. Divas sing doo-wop, as carnivorous plants fail to devour a blooming romance in this delightful hit musical.
